Messages to Ads

Message From - Mike Pierrepoint (aka Pip) - one of Adams best buddies

Firstly, Id like to send my thoughts and love to Alan, Margaret, Dan and Jess - Adams fantastic family.

My message to you Adam...

Just before you and Andy hilariously destroyed me in your Best Mens Speech I read out my Grooms speech. At the end of the bit about you, I said the words "Everybody Loves Adam". You picked up on that and thanked me for it as it had some heartfelt resonance with you. Not only was this the reason for the domain name of this website but the main reason I said it...is that it is so so true.

Yes I know now, that I should have spoken to you more and I should have tried to have seen you more but I promise you that I am not full of guilt. I am actually incredibly proud to have been lucky enough to call you my best mate. You gave my life, and a huge amount of other people’s more laughs than anyone could count. You also laughed at your own unbelievable talent of being accident prone even though you broke more bones than Evel Knievel. I have shed so many tears over the past few days but a good percentage of them are crying while laughing at story after story that have been a natural part of your life's adventure.

I have always hugely respected and looked up to you mate, and although there seems to be a huge hole in my world I will promise you this...

I wont mope and wallow, I wont speak of your name with any shadow or sadness attached to it. You will stay engraved forever in my heart, not only as the funny, caring, fantastic, mad, gentle and ginger dude, but one of most amazing human beings ever to have graced this planet. It sounds over the top but I honestly mean it.

I trust you will rock your new world as much as you did this one.

Lots of love Ads

Your mate Pip

Message From - Gaz Fletcher - Best mates at school

As with everyone, thoughts to Alan, Margaret, Dan and Jess.

When we became friends you were known as Cazz. As we grew and matured (alright then got to about 13), you wanted to drop that name as you thought it sounded like it was short for Karen. Ads you made the world a brighter place for so many people.

On a personal level it's true what they say "schooldays are the best years of your life". The times and laughs we shared together and with others will remain in my thoughts forever. Back then we had the same interests in music, clothes and scooters and after all these years I'm still stuck with the same things.

Even now when I listen to Frank Wilson, Gloria Jones, Judy Street or anyone similar you always come into my mind.

It was a joy and pleasure to have been a small part of your life. You are a legend.

Wanderers Forever x

Message From - Shane Wood - one of Adams best buddies

First and foremost my deepest sympathies to Margaret, Alan, Dan and Jess, my thoughts are with you all.

To say goodbye to one of the best friends a man had is the hardest thing to do.

We were part of each others lives for so long and shared many good times which will be treasured memories. No amount of words will explain my feelings, you were like a brother to me.

My life will be a darker place without you, but you will always be with me in my head and in my heart.

I am proud to say you were one of my best mates.

Love you mate

Shane

"What a great lad he will sadly be missed. RIP Adam."

Message from  Robert Chamberlain - School mate

I have no particular message just want to pass on my sincere condolences and the world is missing a genuine character, straight from the old school!

Message from  Toni & Gill - Mates from Manchester

You were only in my life a short while .. a week in Faliraki in 1996 when we were all about 26 years old.  I’d gone with my best-friend Gill and you with your best mates Andy and Mike and Steve˙.  We’d noticed you all on the coach on the way to the hotel (well who wouldn’t, you were louder than the rest of the coach put together!).

I remember us all bailing out on the ‘20s’ reps (and the rest of the hotel!) so we could go off together and I remember Gill and I concluding after not very long at all that “we loved Ads” because you were just …. “Top” (have to say that in a Mancunian accent for full effect!).

You wrote on the pages of our lives in indelible rainbow ink.  Even though we were just 2 more girls from your countless lads’ holidays, we thought of you all as real mates.  We still do and we still reminisce about that holiday to this day … good times.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, thank you, thank you for being in our lives.

Goodnight & God bless Ads.

Gill & Toni xx

Message from  Emma Powell - school mate

"He was a lovely guy xx"

Message from Danielle Gotheridge - Knew him from The Penny Pub

I obviously first met Ads (Butch) while serving him a pint at the Inn for a Penny...he would always spend time chatting and would offer to buy me a drink, and this is what made him stand out from the rest (no offence Pip! Ha).

On my nights off I would join them all for nights into town, the Christmas coach trip, and many more fantastic memorible nights and Adam is the one who would always remain a gentleman, with that huge smile not matter how messy we would all get.

Over the years I spent many an hour chatting over a few pints with Adam and we became good friends, but that's how he was, a good friend. Someone you could trust, someone you could rely on and would never let you down...the friend we all want, and now the friend we will all miss.

Adam, I love you mate...and our lives sure ain't going to be the same without your huge smile to warm our hearts.

2 Messages from Gray Carlisle - A mate from The Penny Pub

This is the type of guy Ads was...

We were sat in the Penny when a slightly odd lady sat down on the table opposite us, the place was filling up and the lady looked a bit forlorn.

I casually mentioned that she looked a bit lonely and, typically (which always endeared him to me) Ads said ,”shall we go and talk to her?”...sure enough we did. Ads kept her entertained for a good half hour before she toddled off with a thank you and a smile! (I'm welling up now)

We used to play footie every sunday morning, loads of us, the 'oldies',Iain, Bunno,Daz, Lyndon, Craig et al and the young 'uns, Pip, Deano, Shane, Andy, Bob and of course Ads, plus a few more.

Anyway, Ads being the exceptionally lucky lad he was (Lucky Eddy) happened to be in the way and I broke his leg! He could have thrown the book at me but settled for a big bowl of fruit and a ticket to see Barry Manilow!!!????

Love You Pal!

Now knock 'em out up there!

Message from Anthony Sheppard (Shep) - School Mate

Ads, you were as genuine, selfless, witty, (in a ginger sort of way) and honest as anyone. Anyone at all. I'm guessing your Aussie mates would just call you "Fair dinkum". Although such a long time has passed since we last met, I will not forget the short time we spent together.

Cheers bud. Rest easy.

Message From Peter Smith - Adam’s mate Smithy’s Dad

Margaret and I knew Ads because he was a friend of our son, Steve and Sarah Smith, and because he plastered our kitchen and landing for us. Very messy but excellent work. As long as you had plenty of dust sheets you were ok.

He was always great company, particularly at the Test Matches. Always remember when he missed his flight home from Dubai/Bahrain? or wherever on his way back to Nottingham for the Test Match.

Still made it for the next day although got head badly burnt because no hat.

Still can't believe that he's gone. The world is a poorer place without him.

Message From Daz Willis - One of his many mates

A carrot topped boy came to live on my street

He turned out to be one of the best I`d meet

We used to sit in his dads Beetle on the drive

He’d say fasten your belt we`re off for a ride

Off we`d go no destination too far

Then the sound of his dad saying "get out that bloody car”

As I sit here writing this for you

Smiles, tears and laughter come flooding through

Thanking you Ads for being by my side

When we went on a double date and I met my future wife

You and Laura, Me and Michelle

Not forgetting your broken arm as well

It saddens my heart knowing that you are gone

But my memories of you will forever live on.

God bless you Adam Godfrey

Message From Dawn Higgins - Andy P’s sister

For Ads......well what can i say, I got to know u through my bro Andy when u was a lovely young lad well 18.

You were funny, entertaining but most of all a true friend to your mates.

I best remember u when u used to come to Sandiacre with Andy to see me ( i wish) when i used to be out with all my girlfriends on a fri night or if not fri a sat, and all my girlfriends would love that u Ads, Andy, Deano, Shane were paying them lots of attention.

But also on a Sunday we would go to our Dave's flat in Stapleford with some tinnies and sit there for hours drinking and telling funny stories. (having to stop now as welling up).

Can remember when u were in Calpe think it was 1993....Andy, Deano and u Ads......well what a week that was....got a funny story to tell there but that will be on the other page. One night after a few drinks (as normal)  we decided that this night after stupid o'clock we were going to watch comets (shooting stars) on the beach, well what were we like.....laying on the rocks looking up at the sky,we must of looked like right muppets but did we care NO.

So many fond memories of you Ads lots and lots of them, I have just mentioned but a few.

You were a fantastic lovely kind person that will be missed by all, and that it was a privilege to have met u, so glad that I was one of those people.

love u lots babe

Heartbreaking. You couldn't meet a sweeter gentler person than Adz.

Can't get the image of him as a little ginger haired boy out of my mind or later when he discovered twotone and an oversized parka with a target on the back.

RIP - if only you'd known how much you would be missed and how much we'll miss you.

I first met Ads in The Wheatsheaf in BJ when I first moved there over 20 years ago.  He was one of the lads from The Penny who brightened up the pub from time to time!  Take That's 'Could it be Magic' springs to mind!

Ads was handsome, charismatic, cool and always had fun and laughter in his eyes.  I had a proper soft spot for him.

Rest in Peace x

Message From Joey Pierrepoint - Pip’s Wife

Hey Ads,

I'm so glad you came over for Pip's 40th birthday mate…our secret texts we had between us arranging it & deciding to keep it a secret not only from Pip, but from every one else too, as we knew all the rest of your fab buddies would be so happy to see you as well!

I got you a Robin Hood costume & when we pulled up outside the Inn for a Penny pub, you casually tapped on the van window & Pip was absolutely thrilled to see you! I loved watching all your mates arrive at the party & seeing their faces light up when they saw you were there!

I remember when you first qualified as a plasterer & I asked you to render my outside garden wall & you were really nervous as you'd not done a 'proper' job before, but I persuaded you to do it & hey, what a fine job you did too!

Thanks for being the best man at our wedding, along with Andy too (Pip Couldn't choose between you two best buddies, so chose you both!) And you both took the piss out of Pip as much as you possibly could in your speeches, wearing your thick false eyebrows & your 'Poodley' wig lol! Everybody loved it!

You will be missed mate by so many people, but believe me, none of us will ever forget you that's for sure! You certainly left your mark!

Thinking of all Ad's family & friends in Oz xx

P.S…did you choose the play list Sat night at the Inn for a Penny pub???…Madness, SKA???!!!!!

Love Joey xxxx

Message From Dave Hunter - One of his many mates

Here's my ode for a guy called Ads ,
All of his life he was one of the lads !
Our memories of him are nothing but fond ,
The lovable rogue , the strawberry blonde !

His ginger hair and puppy dog eyes,
Ads was one of life's Mr Nice Guys !
Though I'd not seen him for a while ,
Thoughts of Ads still make me smile !

He lived most life without a care ,
Mr Whatever with ginger hair !
So laid back he was almost flat ,
And always had time for a pint and a chat !

And now he's in eternal sleep ,
Happy memories are ours to keep ,
So if there's a heaven for the good and right ,
One things for sure there'll be a party tonight !

So farewell mate and rest in peace ,
Our love for you will never cease ,
Our loss is heavens gain that's no joke ,
Cos now there's an angel who was one top bloke

You take for granted when you’re young the great friends and great times you had, Adam played a big part in making those times great and they will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace Ads and know that we all "really loved you" too.

Message From Esther Murray (Chapman) - One of his many mates

It is many years ago now since I knew Ads but I have fond memories of him being a fantastic and very funny mate. And while he (and the rest of you guys) were in my life as mates for only a few years you made a big impact on my life at the time and how I viewed the world.

Ads , you were a great mate to me in the late 80s/ early 90s and I have many fond memories of you, from sharing a fag, a pint and a giggle down the Vale and the Penny, to cruising around Gedling in your old red van with the music blaring out full volume. I remember the maddest thing we ever did was swimming fully clothed in Colwick Lake with rubber rings  (the water was freezing- we must of been crazy)!!!!

Thanks for the fab times way back then and I am so sorry to hear you are no longer with us.

Rest In Peace Ads

I would like to pass on my heart felt condolences to all Ad's family and friends.

My thoughts are with you all

Message from Rich Savage (Sav) - school, drinking and forest buddy

Well mate just want to thank you for the many great times we all had together, you were always the one with a smile on their face and made us all laugh.

I do want to apologise for the Rick Astley taunting back then in the 80's (you looked nothing like him Ads honest, well maybe a little in that dodgy coloured suit you wore at Gaz’s wedding)

The great times we all shared at school then later Cheggo, Penny and Forest will live with me forever.

God bless you Ads your smile and laughter will light up the sky at night now forever,

Message from Steve Smith (Smithy) - One of his many mates

I got to know Ads in the early 90s and he became one of my best friends as well as friends with my family and we kept in touch when he went to Oz. Adam was the type of person who got on with everybody.

We went on a couple of fantastic holidays together with the boys and one thing that used to get me was his complete addiction to tomato sauce – he had it with everything. In fact I am sure that in Faliraki he only ate Spanish omelette with tomato sauce for the whole week. This was before we started snorting Ouzo in one of the local bars. Every night seemed to finish with me and Ads singing to Don’t Look Back in Anger followed by singing and dancing to I Will Survive. These were great days.

Ads was great, someone who had loads of friends and had the ability to start you laughing when you were together. Adam also enjoyed spending time in his own company and used to read quite a lot and was a big fan of Terry Pratchett – he was not just about having a beer, doing daft things and breaking bones regularly there was more to him than that.

I will not say that he was a great athlete but he did run the half marathon and his preparation the night before was 6 pints of Caffreys and then a pizza. He wanted pasta because all athletes ate it but he could not get any from the take away, so he had pizza which was Italian – so that was good enough…..

I remember the Orion he used to drive when he first started plastering, it was an absolute disgrace, you needed a bath when you got out of. Typical Ads he just did not care about things like that. He used to be in the Penny Friday teatime when we used to meet up always covered in dust. Mind you if we were going on a big night out he would get out the white Fred Perry T shirt and Docs – only for posh do’s mind.

Adam could also be a nightmare. Pip had his house done up on Willow road and had wooden floors put in. When it was all finished Pip went away for the weekend leaving Ads in charge. Big mistake. Adam arranged a party for friends from the Penny together with some people I am sure nobody knew. I can still picture beer and fag ends going on to the new wooden floor.

Ads got to know my wife Sarah and sent presents for our kids. In fact he seemed incredibly pleased when Dylan was born ginger. I think this was pay back for all of the times I called him a ginger tosser!

I am pleased that I got to know Adam and I was proud to call him my friend. When I think of him I smile. I will miss him massively.

Love ya mate

Smithy (your posh mate)

Message from Joanne Wakefield (Rogers) - One of his many mates

Adam, when I think of school, memories of you & Geraldine are always first to pop up! Joined at the hip & always good for a laugh.

Thank you for saying good bye before heading off to Oz, something to remember you by. Will always remember your ginger fuzz, contagious smile & huge heart!

You'll be missed by a lot of people.

The sky has got a new star.

Condolences to Ad's family & friends.

Message from Margarette and Roger Green - Nick (Fly's) Mum and Dad

Firstly can we send our deepest sympathy to Adam's family - our hearts go out to you.

We have know Adam since primary school - he was my son Mark's best friend. Sadly Mark died aged just 15 and we hope they are together again reminiscing about the great times they had together as they grew up and especially at Carlton Le Willows School.

Nick met up with Adam again on his trips to Australia and eventually he decided he wanted to live there. Adam was good enough to put him up until he got himself sorted. We spent a lovely time with Adam in his home a few years ago - he was such a loving, welcoming young man in every way.

We have not long returned from Nick's wedding where Adam was best man. He gave a wonderful speech and we were absolutely devastated to hear the very sad news.

We will always remember you Adam, you brought joy to so many people and especially to Nick, Lisa and Alex.

Rest in peace - much love - Margarette and Roger

Thank you for the opportunity to put our thoughts on this wonderful website.

Message From Louise Kirk - One of his many mates

My Dearest Adam, Adz, Godders, Daft Lad, Godfrey

First of all I would like to send my deepest heartfelt sympathy to Adams family, I know we are devastated at the lost of our good friend but I know your pain must be indescribable, but please take comfort in knowing that your wonderful son and brother touched the hears and souls of so many people.

Their are no "Whys” only heartache and pain at the loss of our favourite strawberry blonde friend who had an amazing way of connecting with so many different people from all walks of life, but on the other hand my heart fills with joy and pleasure when I think of you and all the love and fun that you exuded.

All the memories come flooding into my brain, long drinking session in the Penny, messy bbq's, nice cosy chats, lots of big hugs and kisses too many to list except when you used to lodge with Craig and we painted your bedroom completely purple much to your distaste on your return, that look on your face of unashamed acceptance when you had done something really funny or off the wall.

I'm not a religious person and who knows what awaits us but I know that the fantastic memories you have created in all of us are a true physical energy force and through that you will be with us for ever.

I will not shed tears of sadness for you Adz, only for myself, I will smile through my tears and remember you with pride and joy and thankfulness that I was lucky enough to have known you.

Rest in peace my gorgeous Adz.xxxxx

EVERYBODY LOVES ADAM, ALWAYS HAVE AND ALWAYS WILL.XXXXXXXXXXX

Message From Bobbie Pierrepoint - Pips Mum

I obviously met Adam lots of times throughout his friendship with Mike (Pip) but I really got to know him when I saw him in August 1997

Drastic measures were needed, the football team were going away for the weekend and Adam had broken his collar bone and couldn’t possibly go with them in the pain he was in

What could he do? Might try that healing Pip’s Mum does. Pip would have egg on his face if nothing came of it.

Anyway lets give it a go.

So a pitiful Adam arrived Monday in great pain but still the broad grin. The healing was hilarious as Adam had the wonderful gift of making a perhaps embarrassing situation into a huge joke.

Different remedies and healing every day until Friday. Needless to say he went happily to his football feeling much better

I had a lovely picture as a present from him. I still have it and it has an inscription on the back which I treasure.

Thank you Adam. You are unique, definitely a one off.

Hope the Angels are coping!!!!

Message From Rich & Karen Brocklebank & Family - Some of his many mates in Oz

I was introduced to Adam by Johnny Pollard soon after Adams move to Australia. Being all expats we would meet every Friday for a few beers.

A great friendship soon developed between not only me but my whole family. We embraced Adam as part of our family. An uncle my kids have never had.

I am sure knowing Ads that he would not have wanted the pain that we feel now. I will so miss the white Transit with a big dust cloud behind it Thundering down our driveway

I feel blessed to have known a very dear friend and cannot imagine life without him. For a man to have meant so much to so many people on both sides of the world he must be a true LEGEND.

All our thoughts are with Margaret, Big Al, Jess and Dan at this most difficult time.

Rest in peace Ads there will never be another  character like you

Lots of Love Richard, Karen, Bluebell and George Brocklebank.

I cant listen to the Jam or Motown without thinking of you!

Message From Mandy Pritchett - Andy’s wife

To my darling Adam

Thinking about all the good times we shared and the first time I met you, which was in the Palace Nightclub Blackpool! You were with Andy and Alan Debar, I didn't think I'd meet my future husband Andy that night!!!.

You guys had been drinking since lunchtime and me, Pauline and Babs walked in to see you all strutting your stuff on the dancefloor at 9pm!!! ( Hilarious) So we all joined into your mini party. Only weeks later I'm sat in the Inn for a Penny feeling so nervous meeting all your mates but you looked after me.

You were such an amazing, funny, caring friend to us both and also to our children who adored you. You never missed their birthdays and we always looked forward to the funny cards and reading all the antics you were up to. How we will miss them. You will be sorely missed but never ever forgotten my darlin...

You were just The Best.

Rest in peace......Love you always x x

Message From Gary Leighton - One of his many mates in Oz

Hi

I'm Gary Leighton, I met Ads through Jonny Pollard 8 years ago when he came to Australia.

Been mates ever since. It was a sad, sad day today pal. You have so many people that love you here and in the UK.

It was an honour to have you at my wedding 3 years ago. I still remember you and Fly being the last ones standing at 2am and still wanting to find a bar to go to...lol.

You will be sorely missed by many.

Goodnight pal.

Gazza

One of the many images of Ad's which sticks in my mind is from when I was visiting Australia. Andrea, Jon (P), the kids and I had to go round to Ad's for some reason.

When we got there Ad's was on his (old) veranda/porch lying in his hammock. The only sound you could hear was the waves breaking on the beach no more than fifty yards away and the gentle creak of the hammock as it swayed in the breeze.

It seemed like the ideal habitat for the Lesser Seen Ginger Freckled Godfrey and I said so at the time, not quite so eloquently, that you looked "As happy as a pig in shit". You appeared to be in your element, it just seemed so, so perfect.

There's not many people I'd drag this knackered body round town for but as it's you I'll be there to blow the froth off a cold one, or possibly a few, or probably a shedload.

One drink in your name simply wouldn't do you justice. I won't be there just to remember you but moreover to celebrate you as I have a slight inkling that's exactly what you'd want.

Condolences to Dan and all the Godfrey family.

RIP Adam

When some one says to you do you remember Adam from school.....

And then follows it up with the tragic news that they are no longer with us it leaves you quiet and cold

Hi, Im Andy Houston from Palmers kitchens Adam used to do all my plastering with Dean (Absolutely Plastered)  great name.

Adam was going to one job for me in Ashbourne Derbyshire to plaster a ceiling in a bathroom but decided half way there that is was too far to go and could make him late for his next appointment AT THE PUB.

He was a top lad and will be sadly missed by all R.I.P ADAM.

Ads, you were a rock, a true friend, there when I needed you most, to listen, to cheer me up give me a hug or  to get me drunk!

I will never forget you, the laughs, the tears  or the terrifying rides in the little red van! You are truly one in a million.

Much love and hugs to your Mum and Dad, Dan and Jess

Love you V x x x

Message From - Andy Pritchett - one of Adams best buddies

I have to say the last few days have been heartbreaking in every way possible, I cannot believe I have lost my Best Friend, Best Man and Godfather to my youngest Liam, we are all totally devastated.

However, between the tears there is laughter, you were just amazing pal. We lived in each others pocket for so long and along with Deano, Rob, Shane and Pip we shared some amazing times and I thank you for that. You made my teenage years and early adulthood the best years of my life, we did so much together pal, every day, every weekend and every holiday you were there by my side, we have so so many memories and stories, which I will post for all to read.

In all those years, I can honestly say I have never heard anybody say a bad word about you. You were loved by so many people and rightly so. I could go on and on, but for now I will leave you with one of Ads’ favourite sayings and anyone that has shared a beer with him, will have heard this...

" I really love you mate"

RIP Buddy. X
